Sustainability
At Mary Walker Textiles everything is ethically handcrafted by me from vintage and preloved textiles, in my regional NSW home studio. These beautiful pieces of cloth have a past story, and it is my privilege to keep this story going. Perhaps your shirt once graced a dining table, witnessing the laughter of family dinners. Or maybe it was a curtain catching the gentle breeze. As such, these textiles may bear small marks, testaments to their rich history, but rather than diminish from the piece, they enhance its story.
The individuality of these textiles means that your shirt is as unique as you are, a one-of-a-kind design. You get to keep the story going and add your own adventures to its history.
Our packaging tells a story, too. Iām passionate about reducing waste. That's why I choose to package your unique Mary Walker Textiles piece in reused materials. While it might not always look picture-perfect, each box or envelope has been given a second life, keeping it out of landfill and helping to protect our planet.
Slow fashion ā the way fashion should be.
I have a story...
The earlier chapters: I was once grandma's tablecloth. Those little marks and imperfections you might find on me tell my story. Like the time when Uncle David accidentally spilt the bottle of Grange! Or when Gran had all the kids around and Pop started a food fight! They were good times.
The current chapter: This is your time to shine! Enjoy your garment. Wear me with pride knowing you are keeping the story of vintage textiles alive. To keep me looking good, treat me with care. Hand wash me or use a laundry bag and put me through a delicate cycle. I can go in the dryer but it's best to just hang me when wet and let me dry in the breeze. Give me a warm iron if I'm a bit crushed.
The next chapter: When it's time for me to move on, don't throw me away. That would be sad! Give me to a friend or if I'm looking a bit worse for wear, give me to a friend who sews and can remake me into something new again. If all else fails, use me as a rag or put me in the compost. I'm made from natural fibres so I'm absorbent and biodegradable. Keep my story going...
But in the meantime, have fun and let's make some great stories together.
